If you’re shopping for a family car that can seat three children, the Jeep Grand Cherokee should be on your list of possible options. This SUV has a huge back seat that’s easily capable of holding two full-size Infasecure child seats with ISOFix and one forward-facing car seat in the third row, or three car seats in total (depending on the models). It also has ample rear legroom and headroom for passengers, and the seats are well-designed for comfort.
The Grand Cherokee’s main strength is its cushy ride, which helps to absorb bumps and sway on the road. Its long wheelbase also helps to create a spacious interior for passengers. This makes it ideal for families who need plenty of room to stretch out and relax on the go.
Child safety is a big priority for many parents, and the Grand Cherokee’s front seats offer plenty of support and comfort. However, some taller drivers might find that the seating position isn’t quite as comfortable as in other SUVs.
On the other hand, the second-row seats are extremely spacious. I was able to install three Infasecure Attain More child seats in their rear-facing configuration, and the Infasecure Versatile Folding Booster Seat fit nicely alongside two Attain More child seats in forward-facing mode. I was also able to fit two Aspire More booster seats in the third row using ISOFix, and both of those setups had plenty of headroom and legroom for adults.
The Grand Cherokee’s rear-seat entertainment system is a nice touch and offers a way for kids to watch their favorite shows or movies while on the road. Its twin 10.1-inch touchscreens are mounted high enough so that passengers can use them without straining their necks, and they can be synced to play the same content or let each passenger choose their own program. The system also has USB/HDMI ports for devices, and there’s a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot that can be used for smartphone tethering or Amazon streaming.
There’s also a rear climate control panel that lets the second-row passengers adjust their own temperatures, and it has air vents that aren’t easy for small hands to tamper with. Lastly, the cargo space behind the second-row seats is generous and can accommodate 18 shopping bags without compromising driver or front-passenger legroom.
The Grand Cherokee’s rear-facing anchors are labeled as both LATCH and tether anchors, which is great. The system reduces the likelihood that your child will suffer severe injuries in a crash by 22%, and it’s compatible with seats in groups 0, 0+, and 1. However, you should always check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to see if the anchors are certified for use with car seats that are heavier than 18 kilograms. If they aren’t, you can still use them with your seat, but it won’t be as safe as when the seat has certified LATCH anchors.
